Alan Alda explores the many ways in which computers are pushing the frontiers of medicine, using virtual reality to treat phobias and assist in brain surgery and human gene manipulation to help regrow blood vessels to bypass damaged arteries. Alda demonstrates a robotic "surgeon" able to perform delicate surgery far away from the doctor controlling it, along with computers helping strengthen unused muscles in the legs of paraplegics.
